I was born in 1937 in Southampton. My family moved up to Stamford during the war. Apparently I was always drawing, I would draw on anything including the walls and windows. I became interested in nature. We had a large garden which became my playground and I began to draw anything I saw, like birds, insects, flowers etc. I wanted to know more about them and I found drawing was a wonderful way to study them.
I have continued to draw all my life in the hope of discovering new things and to put ideas on paper. I trained as an engineering draughtsman on leaving school so continued drawing. I then transferred to graphic design and technical illustrating in engineering. At the age of 30 I became a partner in our own design studio specialising in animated film. After 16 years I decided to become a full-time fine artist. I began to draw and paint the wonderful countryside where I lived in a delightful village - Whissendine in Rutland. I continue to paint local landscapes as well as wherever I travel. Venice has become my favourite city and a subject I love to draw and paint.
I work in watercolour, oil, acrylic and pastel.
Watch out for my new website dedicated to just paintings of Rutland (UK) where I live and paint. Rutland is a delightful small county in the centre of England. Its county town of Oakham is steeped in history and I recommend a visit. The surrounding villages are again worth exploring. I have painted scenes of this fine county for over 40 years and I love it and now know it very well.
The new website is www.rutlandpaintings.co.uk
